Hanban & Its Teachers

Hanban is part of China’s Ministry of Education and responsible for the promotion of Chinese language and culture throughout the world.  As such they are committed to providing teaching resources and teachers for their Confucius Institutes (usually based in universities) and Classrooms wherever they are in the world.  Hanban also supports teachers of Mandarin in general with the aim of facilitating and developing multiculturalism; after all students of languages are not only linguists but also ambassadors.  Please feel free to visit their English home page for further details: http://english.hanban.org/

To help them with this Hanban provides teachers for its Institutes and Classrooms.  Hanban teachers can be either male or female, teachers or graduates of linguists and other language courses.  They are expected to have a certain level of English to help them live and work in England and they are expected to support the Chinese department of the school they are based in in any way they can; teaching and supporting classes, creating resources, running clubs, organising displays and performances in addition to promoting the Classroom when and where possible.  Sometimes their workload might be light and at other times is can be heavy and very demanding, especially if the Spoke School is far away and requires lots of travel; this is how it is and the only way for Hanban to succeed in its mission to provide Chinese language and culture tuition throughout their Institutes/Classrooms and their designated area.  Consequently, the time as a Hanban teacher cannot be entered lightly and those who do work as Hanban teachers are rewarded by the Chinese and British government for their hard work and contribution to teaching during SSAT’s Annual Chinese Conference where they receive a certificate and are allowed to ‘show off’ their work with an exhibition.

If you would like to make use of the expertise and enthusiasm of our Hanban teachers please do not hesitate to contact me and we can arrange for them to visit your school and students: g.jamieson@djanogly.notts.sch.uk

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Hanban for all its support and kindness
